** Geido Restaurant (Prospect Heights)

Geido Restaurant had created a lot of hype for us. We stopped by Geido THREE times before finally getting the chance to dine there. The first two times, we tried to go to Geido for lunch, but with the gates down and endless rings to our telephone calls, we deduced that Geido was either closed for good or only open for dinner hours. The third time we went, we confirmed it was the latter.

Geido is located at Prospect Heights on Flatbush Ave. Although we got there at almost 8PM on a Saturday night, we were only one of two couples waiting for a table. After a 10 minute wait, we were seated. Their decor and furniture has an outdoor dining vibe. Wooden chairs and tables plopped next to a graffiti-filled wall. I might not have minded had I not been seated right next to a drawing of a Doraemon with red dripping paint where it's mouth supposed to be. XD creeeepy....  3 stars

We were drawn by the 4 star Yelp reviews that claims Geido is authentically ran by Japanese (very rare in Brooklyn). The wait staff were Japanese and friendly. The menu had its usual grammatical errors. Substitutes to entrees were marked as "$1 UP" for additional charges. I was surprised that a standard Sushi Regular was, I believe, $14 and marked as "Dinner served with miso soup and salad ($3.50 UP)". Both C & I were contemplating if it would even come with soup. I don't think we've been to any restaurant where soup/salad were not part of a sushi entree. We decided to order a Sushi Entree for 2 which was $38 and since the waitress didn't ask if we wanted add soup or salad, we didn't get our miso soup fix for the evening.

Our sushi came on a very ugly plastic blue plate. Sushi Entree for 2 came with 18 pieces of sushi and choice of 2 rolls; we chose the spicy tuna and California rolls. And boy were we disappointed! The rice on the rolls were a bit dry and hard, probably been out too long. The spicy tuna only had a hint of spicy mayo, if any. The eel, tuna and shrimp sushi pieces were just average, if you don't mind the overcooked shrimp. They weren't bad (no nasty fishiness) but they definitely wasn't mouth watering grade. The Ikura pieces were extra salty.  The salmon and yellowtail were good but did not give us the satisfaction that we expected.

Though we were full after the entree (devoured in less than 15 mins), we decided to walk a few blocks down to Taro Sushi to get our sushi fix! We actually ordered another sushi regular to share (also did not come with miso soup or salad, must be the area.) We needed it after all the disappointment from the highly anticipated Geido.

Overall, maybe 2 stars for the restaurant. Are we going back there again? Highly unlikely, especially when Taro Sushi is around the area.
